Policy Communication

Pulmuone is promoting various activities for sustainable food and environment under the corporate mission of “To Create healthy Tomorrow for the People and Planet with Wholesome Foods.” Accordingly, we support the Paris Climate Agreement's goal of keeping global warming within 1.5°C for a sustainable food environment. In January 2024, we declared our 'Eco-caring' strategy and set Net-zero and nature-positive goals by 2050.

As such, we operate an association management system in accordance with our company-wide Letter of Authorization (LOA). Decisions to join association activities and initiatives are based on industry relevance, alignment with Pulmuone's mission, contribution to improving our own and industry's ESG capabilities, and contribution to achieving global shared goals such as the Paris Agreement and UN SDGs. The decision-making process is transparent and independent throughout the drafting, review and approval process, in accordance with regulations.

Even after joining and sponsoring, Pulmuone executives continues to evaluate the results of association and initiative activities and regularly monitors association membership, activities, and budgetary expenditures to ensure they are consistent with Pulmuone's LOA, donation and sponsorship policies, and Pulmuone's interests.  If, during this process, we find that an association's activities are not aligned with our climate change mission, we actively review and communicate with the association's public information to mitigate any differences in position. If these positions cannot be reconciled, the Board of Directors may review and decide whether to discontinue support for the association.

In the first half of 2023, Pulmuone joined The Consumer Goods Forum (CGF), the world's leading meeting of food and distribution companies. CGF is an official accelerator of the Race to Zero (RtZ), a net-zero initiative under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which has declared a 50% reduction in global carbon emissions by 2030 to meet the 1.5°C science-based goal.

In addition, Pulmuone continues to raise awareness of the importance of the environment to external stakeholders and conducts joint research with government organizations. Since 2022, we have been conducting the 'Jigusikdan Campaign' every year to inform the public about the importance of sustainable food and the environment. In addition, in September 2023, the National Institute of Fisheries Science of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and Pulmuone Institute of Technology signed an MOU to promote joint research on securing high-tech competitiveness and fishery resource management on 'Fisheries Food as a Sustainable and Healthy Future Food Resource'.
