New Renewable Energy

Climate change 2017-12-07

Pulmuone has been putting in efforts to proactively respond to climate change. In 2013, it introduced a wood pellet boiler at Eumseong tofu plant, where flagship products are made, and installed the boilers in two more locations at Uiryeong tofu/Pulmuone Kibun plants. In addition, the Pulmuone Health & Living Doan plant for health functional food/vegetable juice is equipped with solar power generation system.

Wood pellets used as fuels for the boilers are made by cutting old tree bark into small pieces, then drying and compressing them. They are a fuel source acknowledged to be zero-carbon. The wood pellet boiler installed at Eumseong tofu plant is registered at the Korea Voluntary Emission Reduction Program (KVER) and has received certification that it reduced greenhouse gas emission by 7,508tCO2e in two years from September 1, 2013 to August 31, 2015.

Also, Pulmuone introduced solar power generation system in resting stops along the highways. Such endeavors allowed Pulmuone to successfully mitigate greenhouse gas emissions across the company.

In 2016, Pulmuone achieved the goal of raising the share of new renewables in the total energy mix to 18.3% (production), and it is expanding the efforts to establish wood pellet boilers and solar power facilities to meet the mid-to long-term goal of 22%. This year, the company is in progress of setting up a wood pellet boiler at Shinsun natto plant and solar system in Eumseong tofu plant.
