Strict Water Quality Management

Water 2017-12-11

As a food company, Pulmuone consumes water in many of its processes, so it seeks to use water in a sustainable manner. For water used in food-producing and cleaning processes at production sites, strict water quality standards are applied so that the discharged water would be in a state similar to natural water.

  1. When production sites discharge treated water, pollutants in the water need to be 50% or less than the legally allowed concentration.
  2. Production sites where treated water is discharged directly to water bodies have a more demanding threshold of meeting the standards for agricultural water.

Wastewater quality management

In order to minimize environmental impact from business operations, Pulmuone manages wastewater treatment facilities and controls the level of pollutants in discharged water. In particular, production sites that release treated water directly into the natural water system have stricter standards, so they have to purify water to meet the level of agricultural water when discharging them. Furthermore, the company examines sites where treated water are discharged and the permissible limits of pollutants in discharged water to prevent risks such as releasing water containing excessive pollutants or conducting an incomplete water quality analysis.

As production sites for tofu, fresh noodle, vegetable, natto, health functional foods, green juice, and other major products are concentrated near the Geum river area, a tougher internal standard has been established to manage the level of pollutants in discharged water at 50% or less than what the law requires.

Production sites releasing treated water directly to water bodies apply agricultural water criteria

According to Pulmuone’s sustainable water resource policy, production sites that inject treated water directly into water bodies have to meet agricultural water standards. Eumseong fresh noodle and vegetable plants, Doan health functional foods and green juice plants, Chuncheon tofu and ice plants, and Beijing plant in China built artificial wetlands and they are operating and managing them in addition to wastewater treatment facilities.
